Novus provides high quality offender education, training and employability services, underpinned by functional English and Maths, and a path to a crime-free future.
We support over 65,000 offenders per year in the Male and Female Estate in more than 100 establishments in the North East, Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, North West, London and Kent and Sussex.
A large proportion of our learning and skills provision is delivered through the OLASS contract (Offender Leaning and Skills Service). We work in partnership with Her Majesty’s Prison Service and the Skills Funding Agency to develop a personalised curriculum offer to meet the local needs of offenders, regional learning and skills strategies and national labour market information, as well as key Government policies and strategies.
We are the top performing provider of education, training and employability services to prisoners and offenders in the country. The latest inspections by HMIP and Ofsted of our provision in prisons graded 80% ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, the complete reverse of the national figure of just 33% identified in the 2014/15 HMIP Annual Report.
Thorn Cross Exhibit at RHS Tatton Park Flower Show
Learners from HMYOI Thorn Cross had the opportunity to set their stall out at this year’s (2016) RHS Tatton Park Flower Show.
Novus Learners on the Horticulture course have been growing their own lettuces using hydroponics, a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water without soil.
The Tatton Park Flower Show manager visited Thorn Cross prior to the show and invited the prison to exhibit the hydroponic unit at the show, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate their innovation and approach to reducing reoffending.
Thomas Lowton, Education Manager at Thorn Cross said: " This project given us an opportunity to demonstrate our successful partnership working, and attending the Show is a fitting way of marking the end of this stage of the hydroponic project run in conjunction with Refarming.”
Novus has formed a number of successful partnerships which complement the high quality training and skills we deliver to learners in custody.
Our custody partners supply specialist strategic input into the delivery of our education provision and offer us an invaluable insight into their sector.
They can also provide industry-recognised programmes within custody and support learners ‘through the gate’ into appropriate progression opportunities.
We are always open to new and innovative ways to extend our reach and give even more people the chance to embark on a crime-free future, so if you are interested in partnering with us please get in touch.Partner with us
